Switching and Wireless

The Technology Department operates the school district's network of 38 switches, spread across 24 technology closets.

The network backbone operates at 10Gbps and provides PoE to support wireless and VoIP.

Our wireless network of nearly 270 access points supports a high-density, 1:1 iPad Initiative.

Data Center

The district's data center houses several servers, providing educational and collaborative services. The data center has a dedicated electrical feed, conditioned by an APC UPS power distribution system, as well as a dedicated air conditioning system that is monitored by environmental monitoring equipment. The data center provides firewall, Internet content filtering, file sharing, print, and backup services.

Phone System

The district manages approximately 300 Polycom VoIP phones and the PBX phone system. The PBX provides sophisticated voice routing and management capabilities such as ring groups, auto attendant, dial plans, voicemail, and paging services.

Desktop and Mobile Clients

The Technology Department currently manages approximately 350 iMac desktop computers and 3,000 iPads. Each student K through 12 has their own iPad.

In addition to the iPads for each student, the district also has computer labs as necessary for specific classroom instruction, such as CAD and graphic arts.

Classroom Technology

Each classroom in the district (approximately 135) has an Epson ultra-short-throw laser projector and an audio enhancement system.

The projectors present to ceramic coated steel dry-erase whiteboards. This allows them to be used as a high-quality dry-erase whiteboard with support for magnetic manipulatives. Classroom computers or iPads can present to the whiteboards wirelessly. Presentation software allows teachers and students to interact with curriculum content wirelessly.

The audio enhancement system includes four ceiling-mounted speakers, two wireless microphones and an amp with auxiliary inputs. The teacher microphone can be worn around the neck from a lanyard and includes buttons for volume control of the audio sources as well as mute buttons. The amp provides amplification for the microphones, computer (or iPad), and one auxiliary input.

Print & Scan Services

The Technology Department manages 22 networked copiers used for print, scan, and copy functions. The copiers utilize RFID badges to retrieve secure "follow me" print jobs. Users can also scan documents directly to their personal email mailbox by swiping their ID badge.
